Saddleback is a limited edition art print by New Zealand artist Sue Syme, part of her series depicting native birds. Produced in an edition of 100, this print shows the saddleback, a distinctive forest bird known for its rich brown‑black plumage and melodic calls.
Once widespread in native forests, saddleback populations declined significantly due to habitat loss and introduced predators. Conservation efforts, including translocations to predator‑free reserves, have helped stabilise the species, and it is now recognised as a conservation success story in Aotearoa New Zealand.
